John W. Bassett – of Counsel

Mr. Bassett has been “Of Counsel” with the Firm since the year 2009, prior to which he was senior partner of the law firm of Bassett & Copple, LLP. Early in his legal career his professional experience included insurance defense, general civil litigation, school law, and general practice. His clients included school districts, corporations, individuals and corporate insured entities. He has tried cases in federal and state district courts and courts of appeal.

More recently, Mr. Bassett’s practice has largely encompassed transactional law, including estate planning, probate, business law and real estate matters. He has served as a member of the Real Property, Trust and Estate Law Section of the New Mexico State Bar Association.

Mr. Bassett has been a career long member of the State Bar of New Mexico, State Bar of Texas, American Bar Association and Chaves County Bar Association. As a White House Fellow, he served one year as Special Assistant to the United States Attorney General. Mr. Bassett served four years as a member of the State Board of Education of New Mexico.

Mr. Bassett has achieved the highest Martindale-Hubbell rating and has been listed in THE BEST LAWYERS IN AMERICA FOR TRUSTS AND ESTATES and Who’s Who in American Law.
